Rome [ENA] On Thursday 23 June and Friday 24 June the second National Conference for Development Cooperation will be held in Rome - at the Auditorium della Conciliazione. The Conference, pursuant to Italian law 125/2014, is convened every three years by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in orders to encourage citizen participation in the definition of development cooperation policies.

The Conference, called CO-OPERA 2022, is co-organized by the Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs together with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and with the Media Partnership of RAI Italian Television www.conferenzacoopera.it.  The event has been opened by the inaugural speech of the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella and by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio. The opening session included the intervention of the Cardinal Secretary of State of Vatican, Pietro Parolin, of representatives of the European Commission, of UNICEF and of Italian civil society organizations from Burkina Faso.

The work of the Conference will consist of 5 Panels focused on the 5 Ps of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Peace, People, Prosperity, Planet, Partnership) with a particular focus on Peace, in light of the present international situation. The ministers responsible for the subject together with speakers representing the Italian development cooperation system are expected to participate in the panels with representatives of civil society from partner countries, top figures of some international organizations and think-tanks.

CO-OPERA will also be enriched with side events ("Side Events"), carried out by civil society organizations, universities and other subjects that make up the Italian development cooperation system, and with rapid and individual interventions ("Coopera Talks") incisive, focused on specific facts, experiences and ideas. The conclusion of the works, on 24 June, will be entrusted to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Marina Sereni. The Conference is an important opportunity to evaluate and make known to the general public the priorities and initiatives of development cooperation and humanitarian aid.

At the same time, the Conference is an opportunity for discussion, proposal and stimulus for all the actors that the law 125/2014 recognizes as active subjects of cooperation and who contribute to making up the Italian development cooperation system. https://youtu.be/TBCKKHB0plQ
